Croatia ferries FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions most ferry trips to Croatia come down to.

From Italy to Croatia

Which ferries sail from Italy to Croatia? +

From Ancona to Split with Jadrolinija and SNAV, from Bari to Dubrovnik with Jadrolinija and from Venice by Kompas catamaran to Poreč, Rovinj and Pula. See Ancona - Split and Bari - Dubrovnik. The guide Ferries from Italy to Croatia compares all three.

How long is the ferry from Ancona to Split? +

Around eleven hours. The ferry leaves Ancona in the evening and reaches Split the next morning. In summer it is mainly SNAV, from autumn Jadrolinija.

When should I be at the port in Ancona? +

That depends on the operator. SNAV requires you to check in no later than three hours before departure; the time in your booking confirmation is what counts.

Does the ferry from Bari to Dubrovnik run all year? +

No, Jadrolinija runs the route on a summer timetable into October. The crossing takes around eight hours, and on the way back the ferry also sails overnight. The timetable shows the departures for your date.

Islands from Split, Dubrovnik and Zadar

Where do the catamarans leave from in Split? +

From Split city port on the eastern waterfront, right in the centre. From there catamarans sail to Hvar, Brač, Šolta, Korčula, Vis and along the coast to Dubrovnik. All lines, car ferries included, are listed on Ferries from Split.

Which port on Brač should I choose? +

The one closest to where you are staying. From Split, lines run to Supetar, Bol, Milna and Sutivan; Milna is served all year. See Split - Brač.

How do I get from Split to Vis? +

By Krilo Kapetan Luka catamaran in around 70 minutes, once a day all year round. See Split - Vis.

Where do the catamarans leave from in Dubrovnik? +

From Gruž port, not the old town. From there catamarans sail to Korčula, Mljet and Šipan and along the coast to Split.

Which port on Mljet should I choose? +

From Dubrovnik, TP Line sails all year to Sobra, and Krilo Kapetan Luka goes to Pomena on the western tip of the island in summer. The page Dubrovnik - Mljet & Šipan explains which port suits your destination.

Which islands can I reach from Zadar? +

With TP Line, Sali and Zaglav on Dugi Otok and Iž, plus Silba, Olib and Premuda on a separate line. See Zadar - Dugi Otok and Zadar - Silba, Olib, Premuda.

How do I get to Lastovo? +

With TP Line, daily and all year, from Dubrovnik via Korčula to Ubli; from Korčula it takes 80 minutes. If you are travelling with your car, take the Jadrolinija ferry from Split via Vela Luka. See TP Line.

How do I combine several islands? +

Many islands are linked directly by catamaran, such as Hvar - Korčula or Milna - Rogač. Each hop is a separate ticket, and many island-to-island links only run in season. The guide Island hopping in Croatia shows which routes also work in winter.

Cars, motorhomes and car ferries

Can I take my car or motorhome? +

On the Ancona - Split and Bari - Dubrovnik ferries, yes. The catamarans from Venice and to the islands carry passengers only.

How do I get my car to an island? +

With the Jadrolinija car ferries, for example to Cres, Krk, Brač or Hvar. You buy tickets from Jadrolinija at the port or online; reservations are only available on certain lines. See Car ferries in Croatia.

Are the two Krilo operators the same company? +

No. Despite the shared name, Krilo Kapetan Luka and Krilo Shipping Company are two separate companies. Check your booking to see which of the two operates your crossing.

Tickets, prices and timetables

How much does a ferry to Croatia cost? +

It depends on the route, the date and your vehicle. The catamarans to the islands cost much less than the Adriatic ferries with a car. The prices page compares the starting prices for each route.

Where can I see the departures for my date? +

In the timetable. Choose your route and date to see the scheduled departures with operator and journey time.

Where do I book my ticket? +

On the page for your route. The booking step shows the price, availability and terms for your departure.

The timetable shows nothing for my date. What now? +

Try the day before or after, then another port on the same island. Many lines run more often in summer than in winter, and some take a break outside the season. The timetable covers every route on this site.
