About Jadrolinija
Jadrolinija is Croatia's state-owned ferry operator, based in Rijeka, and the largest ferry company in the country. It links the Croatian mainland with the Adriatic islands and also runs the most important international lines between Italy and Dalmatia.
International lines: Italy - Croatia
Two of Jadrolinija's international car ferry lines can be booked on this site: Ancona - Split, the shortest crossing between Italy and central Dalmatia, and the seasonal Bari - Dubrovnik line to southern Dalmatia. Both routes are served by classic ro-pax car ferries, which carry cars, motorhomes and foot passengers across the open Adriatic overnight or during the day.
Car ferries vs catamarans
Jadrolinija's fleet falls roughly into two types of ship. On the international lines and the major island connections, ro-pax car ferries carry vehicles and passengers together, for example the Dalmacija on the international lines. On shorter, busy routes such as Split - Hvar, Jadrolinija uses fast passenger catamarans instead; these take foot passengers only, no vehicles. Jadrolinija also operated on the neighbouring Split - Bol route for part of this season.
Jadrolinija's core business, however, is domestic: the dense network of car ferries between the Croatian mainland and the islands.
Car ferries to the Croatian islands
With your car, you can cross to the larger islands on these Jadrolinija lines:
- Kvarner: Brestova - Porozina and Valbiska (Krk) - Merag to Cres, Valbiska (Krk) - Lopar to Rab, Prizna - Žigljen to Pag
- Northern Dalmatia: Zadar (Gaženica) - Ošljak - Preko to Ugljan, Zadar (Gaženica) - Brbinj to Dugi Otok, Biograd - Tkon to Pašman
- Central Dalmatia: Split - Supetar and Makarska - Sumartin to Brač, Split - Stari Grad and Drvenik - Sućuraj to Hvar, Split - Rogač to Šolta, Split - Vis
- Southern Dalmatia: Ploče - Trpanj to Pelješac, Orebić - Dominče to Korčula, Prapratno (Pelješac) - Sobra to Mljet, Split - Vela Luka - Ubli to Korčula and Lastovo
On most of these lines your ticket is valid for any departure on the date printed on it, and cars board in the order they arrive. On lines such as Split - Stari Grad, Split - Vis or Valbiska - Lopar, however, the ticket is also your reservation for a specific departure. You can buy tickets at the port, online from Jadrolinija or in the mJadrolinija app; for a vehicle you need your vehicle registration document. Our guide to car ferries in Croatia covers crossing times, reservations and arrival times for each line.
Check-in and tickets
On international lines, check-in usually opens two hours before departure at the port agency in the terminal. To board you need valid ID and, if you are travelling with a vehicle, its registration documents. Book your ticket through the departures on the route pages; the cancellation terms are shown during booking. On board you can pay by cash or card.
On the fast catamaran lines such as Split - Hvar, up to 20 kilograms of luggage per person is free. On the Ancona - Split and Bari - Dubrovnik car ferry lines, the luggage rules depend on the ship in service.
Timetable and prices
The timetable shows Jadrolinija's bookable departures, and the prices page explains how the fare is made up. Jadrolinija publishes the timetables for its car ferries to the islands line by line. On several lines the operator sails more often in summer than in winter, on Valbiska - Lopar for example up to four times a day instead of twice.
